Dec. 1, 1977 Survivor of Pioneer Settler Dies in Spokane Gail Johnson, daughter of Frank and Abbie (Phillips) Johnson, pioneer settlers in this community, died in Spokane, Washington on November 17, 1977. Born on the Johnson farm north of Lake Odessa on May 2, 1894, she was the last survivor of a family of seven. She graduated from Ypsilanti Normal School and taught in Michigan, New Jersey and Montana before settling in Spokane where she remained until retirement in 1958. Her summers were often spent in Lake Odessa with the families of her brothers, Thomas, Frank (Dick) and Royal C. (Sam). Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Wreatha) Johnson of Lake Odessa and Mrs. Harry (Miriam) Johnson of Knightown, Indiana and nieces and nephews.
