April 13, 2016 SUZANNE KATHERINE JOHNSON 1931- 2016 Suzanne Katherine (Shipp) Johnson went to be with her Lord on April 8, 2016 at Cornerstone Living center in Hastings, Michigan, where she had received extraordinary care. She was born May 25, 1931 in Flushing, New York, to Ferne and Paul Schwab. She was a graduate of Lansing, MI Sexton high School in 1949 and then received a degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1953. Sue then taught at the Lake Odessa community Schools in English, French and Spanish. It was there that she met her husband Delos, where he also taught. They were married in 1957. She stopped teaching in a school when they started a family. Sue continued her teaching by raising two wonderful children. In 1978, she became the treasurer of the village of Lake Odessa. Sue held that post for 26 years. She has been a member ot the Central United Methodist church of Lake Odessa for several year and she sang in their choir for many of them. She was also a member of the Ionia Association of retired School Personnel, a member of the Friend of the library of Lake Odessa Community Library, The Lake Odessa Historical Society and the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Don and Flossie Streeter, her mother Ferne Shipp, and her step-father Roland Shipp. She is survived by her husband Delos, her children and spouses Pamela (Daniel) Schuck of Niles, MI and Mark (Jenne) Johnson of Lake City, MI; her grandchildren Nicolas Schuck, Craig Johnson, Christopher Schuck, and Deanna Johnson; her brother Don Shipp; and her sister-in-law Hazel Johnson and Rose Marie Johnson. Surviving nieces and nephews are Jason Shipp, Justin Shipp. Debora Pokora, and Brenda Johnson. The family will receive friends and family Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Koops funeral chapel in lake Odessa. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 11 a.m at Koops Funeral Chapel in lake Odessa with Pastor John Waite Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lake Odessa Community Library, the Lake Odessa Area Historical Society, or to the Central United methodist Church of Lake Odessa.
