She was born in Portland, MI on Oct. 26, 1923 to Louis and Emma (Whitmore) Hoenicke. Donna married Kenneth Johnson on Feb. 22, 1943 and they were married 66 years until hi death in August 2009. Together they built their house in Orleans and a houseboat they kept on the Big Muskegon River for many year. Donna worked over 20 years as a postal clerk at the Orleans Post Office where Kenneth was the postmaster. She made sure that every child on the Orleans postal route who sent a letter to Santa received a typed response from Mrs. Claus. Donna was an expert archer who won many trophies for her archer abilities. She was an active member of the Belding Mohawk Archers and of the Ionia Archery Club. In earlier years, she was involved with the Ionia County Extension Club, Orleans Mother's Club, Orleans Methodist Church, Vacation bible School, and she worked on the Ionia County Election Board for 30 years. Donna will be remembered fondly for her wicked sense of humor and a singular charm. When she arrived at any function that's when the fun began. Her humor lives on because memories of Donna's sense of fun always brings with them much laughter. She loved doing needlework, especially embroidery. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, painting ceramics, reading, and golfing and bowling with her good friend Trude Schafer. Donna was a devout Detroit Tigers fan who knew every player and had an opinion on which players should be or should not have been traded. Family always came first. Donna has three children; Jean (Bruce) Laramy of Grand Rapids; Terry (Shari) Johnson of Laurium; Deborah (Tom) Wood of Winston-Salem, NC. Nine grandchildren; Tammi (Greg) Kneale, Darcey O'Hara (deceased), Chris (Shannon) Chickering, Aaron Chickering (Deceased), Jennifer (Mike) Tester, Jeffrey (Ramona) Johnson, Molly (Dale) Hillukka, Dan (Becky) Johnson, Mason (Ellie) Wood, and two step-grandchildren, Amie (Derek Manning) Laramy, Amanda (Adam) Lube; 29 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren with two on the way. Donna was preceded in death by her husband and parents, sisters Beulah, Geraldine, and Jean, and grandchildren Darcey O'Hara, Aaron Chickering, and Great-granddaughter Meriah Johnson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral home Belding and one hour before the service at church. Interment will be in Orleans Township Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be mad to the Spectrum Health Hospice or the American cancer Society.
