LOSES ANOTHER SPLENDID MOTHER A Pioneer of This Locality, Raised a Fine Family of Children. Passed Quietly While She Slept. When death comes suddenly the words cause a surprise as the news passes from one to another. Such was the case when the news came Friday morning that Mrs. Abigail Johnson was found dead when the usual morning call on her, was made by her son Royal. Mrs. Johnson has had heart trouble and that organ had simply done its last work while its owner had slept. Mrs. Johnson was one of the pioneer mothers of tis locality, raising a fine family of sons and daughters, all of whom have positions of responsibility and trust. She had many friends beside her family who will miss her smile of cheerful greeting and her kindly ways with all who knew her. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the home Rev. O.F. Bulman giving the last rites. The pall bearers were her sons and grandsons and the body was placed beside her husband at Lakeside. OBITUARY Abigail Phillips, daughter of Aaron and Nancy Clinghan Phillips, was born Aug. 16, 1850, at Youngstown, OH. At the age of four years she moved with the family to Iowa. While there the mother died and in 1865 they returned to Ohio. In 1873 she came to Bonanza, Mich., where her father lived with another daughter Mrs. Julia Anway. Three years were spent in the E.W. Bush home in Grand Rapids and on Nov. 12, 1876 she was married to Frank Johnson, in a double wedding with Martin Tupper and Miss Eugenia Lapham. The Johnson's began housekeeping in a new house on the farm where their son Royal now lives. Having been deprived of a home in her younger days, Mrs. Johnson loved her home and it was ever a haven for friends and relative who appreciated its hospitality and her wise counsel. Into this home seven children were born, all of whom survive. In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved to their home in the village where the husband and father died, July 22, 1918. Since that time Mrs. Johnson has kept her home and has tended a lovely garden in which she found much pleasure. During the night of Oct. 3 she slipped from life as she had so often expressed the wish, in her own home, and without any illness. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Rilla Marshall of Bluffton, OH., seven children, Thomas, Royal and Frank of Lake Odessa, Alta M. of Spokane Wash., Harry E. of Knightstown, Ind., Gail now of Columbia University, Edna J Furniss of Nashville, nine grandchildren and many other relatives, beside the large circle of true friends her good life has made. CARD OF THANKS The children of Mrs. Abigail Johnson wish to thank all those who extended help and sympathy at the time of their bereavement. Additional Comments: Lakeside Cem-#1-2B Terr.
