He was born in Lake Odessa the son of Thomas and Mertie (Walters) Johnson and was a 1924 graduate of the Lake Odessa High School. He attended Michigan State University for two years and then attended Western Michigan University where he graduated in 1928. Mr. Johnson taught school and was football coach at Holly for two years before accepting a position with Trans-American Airlines in 1931. He enlisted in theAir Force in 1942 and retired in 1949 with rank of Colonel and became director and vice-president of Decca Systems, Inc. in charge of north and south operations from 1949 to 1969. At the time of his death he was a representative of two California firms in charge of industrial operations in Belgium. Mr. Johnson married Florence Boylan of Lansing in 1931,, who survives with two sons, Thomas of Hampton Roads, Va., and Richard of Fairport, N.Y.; four grandchildren; his mother and brother, Walter of Lakeview, Battle creek. Funeral services and cremation were held in Belgium Monday Oct. 18, and a memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:30 at Pickens Funeral Chapel. Rev. Marvin Zimmerman will officiate, with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
