Ionia Shopper's Guide - July 21, 2018

Maxine Mae (Roark) Johnson, 98, passed away July 16th at Thornapple Manor in 
Hastings, Mi. She was born June 9, 1920 to ;Ernest and Julia (Ellis) Roark. 
Maxine grew up in Alto and graduated from Lowell High School. She married Robert 
(Bob) Ira Johnson on October 21st. 1939. She is survived by her children; Dorla 
(Art) Reid, Sault Ste. Marie, Mi., Yvonne (Dan) Howe, Carnation, Wa., Arloa 
Thomas, Lake Lure, NC., Carol Redebaugh, South Haven, Mi. Robert (Rob) Ira (Kim) 
Johnson II, Lake Odessa, Mi., brother in law, Don Rawlings, sister in laws; 
Donna Johnson and Delores Johnson, Sixteen grandchildren and Twenty-one great 
grandchildren. Preceding Maxine were her Husband, Parents, Grandsons; Adam 
Craver, Jerel Methner, Craig and Clint Thomas, Son in law; Jim Redebaugh, 
Brothers; Alger, Allison (Izetta) Roark, Sister; Darlene (Ray) Jousma, Father 
and Mother in law; Ira Robert and Jennie (Freyermuth) Johnson, Brother in laws; 
Richard, Bill (Ruth), Roy (Ann) Guy and Jack, Sister in law; Catherine Rawlings. 
They raised crops and hogs on their Lake Odessa farm. She ably performed all the 
many tasks a farmer's wife and mom faced while having a large garden and sewed 
many items for family and home. Maxine was active in the community as an officer 
and member of the  Mother's Club, 4-H Leader and Farm Bureau. A faithful life 
member of the Community of Christ Church, she served as a Deacon, Women's 
Leader, Teacher and always giving her all. They enjoyed a well-deserved 
retirement in McAllen, Texas for many years. A Celebration of Life will be held 
on August 11, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Alaska Community of Christ Church, 8146 
68th St. SE., Alto, Mi. with Elder Ken Colburn officiating. Koops Funeral 
Chapel, Lake Odessa are handling arrangements. Share a memory online at
