Ionia Sentinel-Std. - Tues. Oct. 23, 1984

BELDING-  Nellie E. Johnson, 77, of 717 N. State Rd., Belding, died Sunday 
afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids.

She was born January 30, 1907 in Otisco Township.

She was married June 27, 1928 to Wallace Johnson. He preceded her in death in 
1973.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, where she served as Lay Leader in 
the Washington Club, Ladies Literary Club and Thimble Club. She was past 
president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as secretary to the 
Belding Board of Education, the Belrockton Board, the Belding Hospital Board and 
Belding Library Board. She was also a member of the Friends of the Library.

She graduated from Belding High School in 1925 and from Davenport College in 
1927.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Bennett of Petoskey, one son, Carlton 
Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; and five grandchildren.

One son, Robert, preceded her in death in 1972.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Belding United Methodist 
Church with Rev. C. David Hainer officiating. 

Burial will be in Riverridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-8:30 
p.m. at Huffman Funeral Home, Belding.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church or Belding 
Library.
