JOHNSON IONIA-Clair A.Johnson 64, of Newaygo, formerly of Ionia, died Friday in Ionia. Born on March 31, 1923, in Ionia, he was the son of Charles and Mamie Trovinger Johnson. He attended Ionia school, served in the U.S. Army during World war II and retired from the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons in 1979 he was a member of the Belding American Legion Post. He was married to Maude Birdwell June 27, 1947, in Ionia. She preceded him in death Dec. 21, 1986, Surviving are three daughters, Mrs.Donald (Martha) Rowe of Palo, Mrs.Roger (Diane) Thomas of Lyons, and Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Ross of Ionia; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Max Johnson ofIonia, Frank Johnson of Orleans, and Dale Johnson of Greenville; and two sisters, Mrs.Nick (Charlene)Marod of Grand Haven and Mrs.John (Joyce) Repik of Ionia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lyle Johnson. Complete funeral services will be held at 3 pm. Sunday form the Rich Street Chapel, Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev.Kenneth Harger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials have been established for Ionia Area Hospice and the Shiloh Community Church, in Care of the funeral home.
