Johnson, 75, wife of Hiram T. Johnson, publisher of the Saranac Advertiser, died at her home in Saranac, Friday evening at 10 o’clock following a long illness. Mary E. Bailey was born in Herold, Canada, in July 1859 and came to Michigan with her parents in 1880. She was united in marriage to Hiram Johnson in 1881, at Pierson, and the following year moved to Saranac where Mr. Johnson bought the Saranac Advertiser and has since been its publisher. Surviving Mrs. Johnson besides her husband are one son, Norton S. Johnson, Sr., of Saranac; a daughter, Mrs. Nettie Stark, of Orange township; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Archer, of Havelock, Canada, Mrs. George Bellsaw and Mrs. Lyba Gunning, of Sterling, Ontario; four brothers, Allen, John and Charles Bailey, of Sterling, Ontario, and James Bailey, of Bellsville, Ontario. Funeral services will be conducted from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock with interment at the Saranac cemetery.
