Johnson, aged 88, of Ionia, passed away Sept. 8, 2007. He was born May 27, 1919 in Duran, Mich. the son of Charles and Mamie (Trovinger) Johnson. He married Marie Hatch Jan. 27, 1945 in Greenville, Mich. Max owned and operated Johnson's Service Station in Ionia for 27 years before retiring in 1981. He attended Shiloh Community Church. He was a past member of the Ionia Elks and Eagles, and he was an avid baseball player. Max is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie Johnson of Ionia; daughters Judy (Steve) Fineis of Ionia and Jan (Howard) Courtnay of Saranac; brother Frank (Louise) Johnson of Orleans; sister Joyce (John) Repik of Ionia; and five grandchildren, Jennifer and Tayvon May of Grand Rapids, Bryan and Sarah Courtnay of Grand Rapids, Jill Fineis of New Hampshire, Erin Courtnay of Byron Center and Carrie Fineis of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Lyle, Clair and Dale and sister Charlene Marod. Funeral Services for Max will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Shiloh Community Church with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment is at Woodard Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Shiloh Community Church. Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Foundation, Ionia Commission on Aging or Shiloh Community Church. Arrangements are by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
