Ionia Sentinel Standard, 23 Feb 1987

George Arthur Johnston, 89, of 232 Liberty Street, Muir, died early Saturday at 
Ionia County Memorial Hospital.  Born July 23, 1897, in Gratiot County, he was 
the son of William and Susan Lincoln Johnston.  He was married to Pearl Rhodes 
in July 1928 and they moved to Muir in 1941 and had lived there since.  He 
retired from the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons in 1965.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Harry of Grand Rapids, Jack of Charlotte, 
N.C., and Jim of Key Largo, Fla.; three daughters, Louise Scutt of Portland, 
Lucille Vallee of Key Largo, Fla., Lois Miller of Lyons; 34 grandchildren and 
48 great grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Jewell of Grand Rapids.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. from Hull Memorial Chapel, the Rev. 
Timothy Gillette of Ionia Baptist church officiating.  Burial will be in Muir 
Cemetery.  A memorial for the Michigan Lung Association has been established in 
care of Hull Memorial Chapel, which made arrangements.
