Shay on Sunday Both Members 9th Mich. Samuel Jolly died suddenly at his home near the water works on Friday morning last, aged 66 years. Lung trouble was the cause of his death. He had been in poor health for several months, but returned a few days ago from a visit with his daughter at Grand Rapids, making the trip overland. He was down town Thursday afternoon on some business matters. Early Friday morning his wife heard a sound in his room as if someone was whistling. She went to the room and found him breathing with great difficult and before a physician arrived he was dead. Deceased had been a resident of Portland for fifty years and was a cooper by trade. He was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of the G.A.R. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Carlisle.
