The services were conducted by Rev. A. E. Mather, a retired pastor of the Baptist church, with the American Legion in charge. The funeral was referred to by Rev. Mather as the largest funeral he had ever witnessed in Portland. Interment was made in Portland cemetery. The American Legion auxiliary had charge of the flowers, which were in profusion and formed a background for the casket, symbolizing the Christian faith that made her existence a choice memory to both her family and her friends. For a number of days it was thought Miss Jones had a good chance to recover from her injuries, even after pneumonia developed reports coming from the hospital were favorable and when the unexpected announcement of her death came to Portland it was received with extreme sorrow. Miss Jones was born in Portland 42 years ago. She graduated from the Portland High school with the class of 1912 and later attended the Mt. Pleasant Normal and Michigan State college. She was well known in the county as a teacher having taught in the rural schools for 18 years. Surviving are the father, Orrin Jones, and two sisters and one brother.
