The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, November 22, 1975

Harold A. Jones, 76, of 222 Union, died early Saturday morning shortly after 
admittance to Ionia Memorial hospital.  He was born in Otsego, Allegan county, 
January 24, 1899, the son of Cap Mitchell and Marion Jones.  He attended 
Partello and Olivet public schools and entered the army in 1917.  He served 
during World War I in four major battles in France and Germany.  He received 
the Purple Heart and Accolade of Chivalry of Humanity and in 1919 was 
discharged from the service with honor.  He was a past member of the Brook 
field F&AM lodge.

January 14, 1922 he was married in Marshall to Mabel M. Wright and she 
survives.  He retired from the State of Michigan in 1962 after 34 years 
employment.  He started work at the old state prison at Jackson in 1928 and 
was transferred to the Michigan Reformatory at Ionia in 1938, where he worked 
until retirement.

Among his survivors are his wife, Mabel; two sons, Meredith L. Jones of 
Charlotte and Richard H. of Dearborn; eight grandchildren and three great 
grandchildren; five brothers, Donald, Kenneth and Carlton of Charlotte and 
Earl of Jackson and Carrol of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Sylvia 
Shultz of DeWitt, Mrs. May Shumaker of Charlotte and Mildred Jones of Marshall.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Myers-Roetman funeral home.  Rev. Roy 
A. Pitts of First Baptist church will officiate and interment will be at the 
Balcom cemetery.  Family members will be at the funeral home Saturday from 7 
to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
