Joseph LeRoy Jones, 76, of Ionia died Tuesday at Butterworth Hospital, Grand 
Rapids.

He was born on October 11, 1916, in Highland Park, the son of William and 
Carrie Marshall Jones and married the former Margaret L. Erridge on December 4, 
1939. She survives.

He was a retired vocational teacher at Michigan Reformatory and formerly owned 
Ionia News Agency from 1966-1979. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, World War 
II; a member of the Ionia Elks Lodge, the V.F.W., and American Legion. 

He is survived by two sons, Joseph and James of Ionia; four grandchildren; Andy 
and Billy Jones, Julianne Jones and Amy Almond; one sister, and Dorothy 
Percefull of St. Clair Shores.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Sally Jo, and one sister, Irene Pryor. 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev. 
Scott Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service on 
Sunday. There will be a reception at the St. John’s Episcopal Parish House 
after the funeral service.

A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association, in care of 
the funeral home.
