Jones, who passed away at 1:30 in the afternoon at the home of her son, George Stiffler, with whom she had resided for the past five years. She had been ill almost two weeks at the time of her demise. The maiden name of deceased was Ellen D. Smith. She was born in Sandusky, Seneca, county, Ohio, September 18, 1841, and came to Danby township with her parents, John and Nancy Smith, when she was 13 years of age. Since that time she had been a continuous resident of this vicinity. She was married at the age of 18 to William Stiffler, who died in December, 1863, and the children surviving this union are George Stiffler, of Portland, and Mrs. James B. Curry, of Danby. In 1864 she was married to Anson Hitchcock, of Portland, and one son, John Hitchcock, of Lansing, survives this marriage. Later on in life she was married to Albert Jones, of Watertown, who died in April, 1897. Mrs. Jones leaves three brothers, T. William Smith of Danby, Silas H. Smith, of Mulliken, and John W. Smith, of Lansing, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Munger and Mrs. Frank Luther, both of Charlotte. Funeral services were held at the late residence at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Truman F. Galt, of the Congregational church delivered the funeral sermon and was assisted in the service by Rev. R. S. McGregor, of the Methodist Episcopal church. Burial was made in Portland cemetery.
