Plain in his speech, instinctively good at heart, he will be remembered most kindly by many a poor person who needed the service of a friend in the hour of distress. Tender as a child, he pursued those simple paths that are open and common to all who choose to follow them; and he possessed a lofty sense of fellowship and equal right that placed him close in friendship to all who knew him as he was. The service at the home at 2 o’clock was attended by many friends, the discourse being by the Rev. J.R. Nierarth, neighbor and friend of deceased since coming of last named to Ionia. The bearers were: Oscar Whorley, William Hill, E.J. Green and Dr. Ferguson. Friends present from out of the city were: Lafayette Jones, a brother, from Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. B.S. Hasbrouke, a niece of Mrs. Jones, of Lapeer, Mrs. Harry Hollis of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Albright of Jackson.
