Jones died very suddenly at 5:50 this morning, of heart disease, from which he has been a sufferer for fifteen years or more. He came down stairs at 5:30, complaining that he could not breathe, and evidently being in great distress. The family gave such assistance as seemed likely to be of use, and telephoned Dr. Beckwith, but he was beyond help, dying in a few moments after the doctor’s arrival. His age was 70. His wife died 24 years ago, and he was living with his daughter, the only child, and her husband, John Wheaton. He served as a keeper at State Reformatory for twenty years retiring a short time ago to his farm in Orleans. A few months ago he bought the place where he died, and moved into town again. He was a man of amiable disposition and strict integrity, and leaves many friends to mourn his loss. Funeral on Wednesday, short service at the home at 11, principal service at the Woodard Lake church at 1, standard time. ---- Henry Jones died suddenly at his home, 349 State street, at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, January 25. Mr. Jones was born in the State of Ohio, Feb. 2, 1838. He came to Michigan when about 9 years old, the family locating in Ronald township, where was his home nearly all his life. He was married to Emelia E. Lyon March 1, 1865. To this union was born one child, the wife of John Wheaton. Mrs. Wheaton has one step-brother, Rev. F. D. Lyon of Remus, who was present at the funeral. Mr. Jones’ wife died about 24 years ago. Since then, he was an officer at the State Reformatory, where he was for about 20 years, part of the time as superintendent of the farm, and for a time in charge of team on traffic duty with city. Everybody knew him, and everybody liked and respected him. He was a good man, with a good word for everybody. He moved on his farm in Ronald less than a year ago. About three months ago he bought the Jay McLaren place on State street, and soon after with his son-in- law and family moved into same. He was a mason, a member of the Blue lodge and of the Star lodge, and a large number of both were present at the brief funeral service at the house. The later and more complete service at Woodard Lake church was attended by a large number of his neighbors and friends in that vicinity, testifying to the affectionate respect in which he was held The services were by Rev. D. H. Shelly of this city; the singing by Mrs. Eugene Smith and Mrs. H. E. Spencer. Interment was in Woodard Lake cemetery. The bearers were G. W. French, George Dodson, Wm. Slye and I. L. Cotton.
