Wes was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1930 to Alton and Naomi (Koutz) Joppie. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann McLenithan on August 9, 1952. Wes and Shirley were happily married for over 57 years and resided in Lake Odessa. Wes started his young life as a farmer working for his grandparents in the Sunfield area. He also worked for Mitchel Bentley and General Tire in the automotive industry, built apartment complexes in Lansing and later he worked for Lakewood Public Schools for 18 years until his retirement in June of 1992. Wes enjoyed camping and snowmobiling with family and friends, socializing, wintering in Brownsville, Texas with his lovely wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid carpenter and enjoyed working in the yard. Wes is survived by his daughters; Julie Joppie, Cindy (Chris) Dempster, Melanie (Kevin) Dow, Lisa (David) White; nine grandchildren, Andrew Dow, Wes Dempster, Adam (Courtney) Dow, Chelsey (Josh) Morrison, Chad Dempster, David White, Ali Dempster, Cameron White, Memphis White; brother Cleo (Gerri) Joppie; sister-in- law Sharon (Buck) Cunningham; brother-in-law Bill (Marilyn) McLenithan; step brother-in-law Bob (Jan) Plants and many loving nieces and nephews. Wes was looking forward to the arrival of his first great grandson in early July. Wes was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two granddaughters, Ashley Dow and Angel White. Funeral services were held on Thursday June 19, 2014 at Koop's Funeral Home in Lake Odessa, MI. Burial was held at Lakeside Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Eaton Community Palliative Home Care in Charlotte, MI.
