Pauline J. Jordan, 88, of Portland, joined her loving husband of 61 years, in 
heaven on Wednesday, May 25.  Pauline died in the home they sheared since 
1947, surrounded by her family and her beloved cat Priscilla.  Pauline was 
born March 26, 1917 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Florice Iva and Coy 
Earle Gadberry.

She loved the Portland Congregational Church, and was a church organist there 
for more than 40 years. One of her great pleasures was her involvement with 
the Women’s Guild and she treasured her many church friends.

Active in community life, Pauline was a Girl Scout troop leader and was 
director of the Yankee Springs Summer Camp for 10 years. A founding member of 
the Portland Civic Players, she was thrilled to be honored on her 87th 
birthday with a standing ovation at the end of last year’s production of “The 
Music Man” for her 50 years of service to that organization.

Pauline was an area correspondent and photojournalist for the Lansing State 
Journal and also worked in Public Relations for the City of Portland. Her 
volunteer PR work is legend.

Many wonderful summers were spent at the family cottage on Wiggins Lake in 
Gladwin County, MI. Her family holds dear all the happy times they spent with 
Dad and Mom there. Pauline loved to swim, play Scrabble with anyone who was 
willing, read, play piano, sing, dream up skits for her husband to perform, 
travel, and host the entire family every Christmas Day for over 50 years. 

Juanita Pauline Jordan was a happy, grateful and graceful woman throughout her 
entire life. She lived a strong, productive life right up until this Spring. 
She felt so blessed to be able to have the chance to say goodbye to all of her 
dear friends and family in her own home with the much appreciated help of 
Heartland Hospice, and passed away peacefully. She will be sorely missed by 
her legions of friends and most especially by her family. 

Pauline cherished and is survived by her 4 daughters, Janet Jordan Lockwood of 
Lansing, MI, Anne (Richard) Horn of Three Rivers, MI and Winter Haven, FL, 
Christine Barrows of Fort Myers, FL, and Linda (David) Luginbill of Dimondale, 
MI, as well as her grandchildren Matthew and Eric Lockwood, Greg and Keith 
Horn, Michelle Freeman, Ryan Fedewa, and Marcus, Joy and Luke Luginbill, and 
her 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Ray (Joyce) 
Gadberry of Apple Valley, MN.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Portland Congregational Church, 421 E. 
Bridge Street, on Wednesday, June 1st, 2005 at 11am, with interment to follow 
at the Portland Cemetery.  Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman 
Funeral Home.  For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the 
Church in memory of Pauline. Those who knew her will not forget her. That, 
too, is Eternal Life.
