Mr. Jordan died at the same farm on which he was born, April 1856, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Jordan, early settlers at Woodland. Burial was in the Lake Odessa cemetery. Mr. Jordan is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Laird, of Battle Creek, and three sons, Lee Jordan of Edmore, William Jordan of Morley, and Fred Jordan at home. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. Another son, Bernie Jordan, is deceased. The last of a family of nine children, Mr. Jordan spent all of his life on the 80-acre farm which his father took up from the government in the early days of the county. On the farm is an orchard of apple trees nearly 100 years old. Mr. Jordan often recalled how in the early days the family had to take its grain by oxen team to Battle Creek to be ground into flour. Another of his recollections concerned a country school near Lake Odessa The schoolhouse had one window with a pane of real glass - brought from New York. When that was accidentally broken one winter, the hole was covered with greased paper and the pupils brought saucers of goose grease and bear grease from their homes to light up the schoolhouse for study. Lake Jordan at Lake Odessa is named for the father of this pioneer. Relatives of Mr. Jordan in Ionia are Mrs. Dexter Conner, William Stowell, Burr Stowell, Alanson Stowell, George Taylor of Easton, and Mrs. Frank Weber of Saranac, all nephews and nieces.
