Who hath not lost a friend? He who hath truly seen the illumination, and felt the vital touch is in possession of a treasure house where only love and truth are known. The untrue and the false, like the ivy, bring decay and ruin to the walls they embrace, but true friendship give life and animation to the object of its regard and affection. Love and esteem are the first principles, and like the true poet, must be inborn, tuned to the same pitch. True friendship is elected, not chosen. If we are related, said Emerson, we will meet. Such a one has been born, she tarried for a while in our midst, then passed to the other shore where her inestimable treasure house of loyalty and love will be better understood. She came into our lives and we are richer and happier for her coming, and now that this ray of sunshine has passed, the shadows of gloom gather around us, and we are left sad and lonely. Mrs. Georgia Joslin, whose earthly home was 861 Home avenue, has gone from our midst, and those who lived in close touch with her life here, know her only to love her. She was a beautiful character, a charming personality, always sunny and cheerful no matter how she felt, be she sad or well. She suffered much during the past two years, but was ever patient and cheerful. She could always find a ray of sunshine in the darkest cloud, and impart it to others less favored than herself, always alert and quick to know when and where it was most needed. Being endowed with a fine and sensitive organization, a very susceptible temperament, with quick vibrations, she was and felt where others less favored could not know. Music stole through every pulse of her nature and held sublime communion with her soul; its subtle stream kindled raptures in and thrilled the coldest hearts. Our beloved was a prominent member of the Ladies’ Literary club. She had many friends in our city, and also in Ionia, her old home the place of her birth, and where all that is mortal of our dear one, will by tender hands be laid to rest. She indeed to those who knew her in childhood, was lovable for Ionia loved her “sunny Georgia,” as they fondly called her. She leaves a beautiful daughter, who will sadly miss a mother’s love and care, a devoted husband, a heart-broken mother, and brother, each and every one of whom mourn as words can never express, their unspeakable loss. Particularly our sympathy goes out to the aged mother, whose very life was wrapped up in this her only daughter. Esther E. Campbell., Grand Rapids, Mich., Jan. 4. The remains were brought to Ionia this morning for interment. There was a prayer service at the grave, conducted by Rev. W.K. Spencer. The bearers were: Job Kingston, Ed. Townsend, John Kingston, H.A. Rich.
