H. Joy of St. Louis, Mo., a man over 70 years old, and an uncle of Mrs. Curtis Merrifield, came to Iona on the noon train on Wednesday, the 9th inst., and immediately proceeded to Mr. Merrifield’s residence. During the afternoon and evening he was cheerful and apparently well, and conversed freely with his friends until about 10 o’clock, when he retired to bed, saying that he did not get any sleep the previous night while crossing Lake Michigan. The following morning he did not appear at the breakfast table, and his friends concluded not to disturb him for a time, but becoming somewhat anxious, they entered his room, and found him lying partially across the bed as if after removing his clothing, and about to turn down the covering of the bed, he had suddenly fallen, as they found him, in the embrace of death. He had been subject to a disease of the heart, which was the probable cause of his sudden death.
