He was 70 years old. It was he who originated the crop reporting percentage system now used by the government and state bureaus. In 1857 he sent to Europe and imported a quantity of sorghum seed and distributed free. This seed was the foundation of the sorghum industry in this country. The international Sunday school lesson was his creation.
