Portland Review & Observer – Monday, 31 December 2000 Julie Ann Brown, 56, of Portland, died Dec. 20, 2000. Mrs. Brown was born in Lansing Jan. 19, 1944, the daughter of Nelson and Edna (Avery) Arnett. She worked for the Portland Public School at both Westwood and Oakwood elementary schools for 21 years as a librarian. She was also responsible for starting the computer lab at Westwood Elementary School. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and was a 4H Horse Leader in Ionia County. Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Phillip W.; daughters, Lisa (William) Atwell and Gina Simon, both of Portland; son, Mark (Lynette) Brown of Portland; grandchildren, Ryan and Brett Atwell, Angela and Megan Simon, and Whitney and Haley Brown; mother, Edna Price of Portland; mother-in-law, Veda Courser of Haslett; brothers, Roger Arnett of Florida, Norman Arnett of Columbus, Ohio, and Rick Arnett of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Nelson Arnett; stepfather, Louis Price; sister, Sue Holquin; and brothers, Robin and Randy Arnett. Services were held Dec. 23 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Portland, with the Rev. Ed Filter officiating. Arrangements were handled by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
