OBITUARY
         Mrs. Mary Ellen Pratt James was born in Ohio, September 8 1847, 
and was united in marriage to Mr. Jesse James August 31, 1864. Six years 
later they moved to Michigan settling in Ionia County and later moving to 
Edmore, where they resided until the death of Mr. James which occurred 
June 25, 1913. Mrs James then took up her residence with her son at Battle 
Creek, at whose home she passed away August 29, 1914.

She leaves one son, also an adopted son, and eleven grandchildren to mourn 
their loss.

Mrs James was a life-long member of the United Brethren Church, ever 
possessing the peace which Christ alone can give.

God in his wisdom has recalled,
The boom his live has given,
Although the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven,

The body was brought here and funeral services were held Monday, Rev. Wynn 
officiating. Burial was at the Welch Cemetery.
