Kahl, 84, of 485 Rice St., died Tuesday at his residence. He was born Aug. 10, 1896 in Livingston County, the son of Louis and Sara Steffen Kahl. He attended South Lyons Schools and worked on the Hunter Farm and at the VanAtta Meat Market in South Lyons. He served in the army during World War I. Mr. Kahl worked as a conservation officer in Livingston and Oakland counties from 1927 to 1933 and in Ionia County from 1933 until retiring on Aug. 31, 1966. He was married to Jennie Wiina-Maki in Waukegon, Ill, July 12, 1929. They celebrated a golden wedding anniversary in 1979. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Ionia Masonic-Lodge No. 36 F&AM for 60 years. He was a member of the Ionia County Fishing and Hunting Club and the Gerard Horrocks Post, American Legion, World War I barracks. He was a charter member o the Central Michigan Law Enforcement Association. He is survived by his wife, Jennie; one son, Philip of Ionia; one brother, Harris of Rudyard, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Claus of Livonia; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, three sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Hausermann officiating. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery. Masonic Memorial Services will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 from the Leddick Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial may be made to the First United Methodist Church Organ fund.
