The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, April 23, 1920

John Kalkofen died this morning form heart trouble at the home of his 
daughter, Mrs. Frank Abfalter with whom he has made his home since the death 
of his wife about three years ago.  He was born in Bendorf, Germany, and came 
to this country and to Ionia, about 35 years ago, living most of the time on 
Center street until he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Abfalter.  He was 77 
years old at the time of his death and had not been in active business for 
about 15 years.  He leaves seven children: John Endres of Ionia, Sebastian 
Kalkofen of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Charlotte Hough of Boston, Mass., Joseph 
Kalkofen of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Frank Abfalter of Ionia, Mrs. Lawrence Burns of 
Lansing and Mrs. Claire Simmons of Erie, Pa.  The funeral notice will appear 
later.

Subsequent Publication:  Saturday, April 24, 1920

The funeral for John Kalkofen will be held Monday morning at 9 o’clock at the 
Church of SS. Peter and Paul.

Subsequent Publication:  Monday, April 26, 1920

The funeral for John Kalkofen was held this morning at 9:00 o’clock at SS. 
Peter and Paul’s church.  Rev. Fr. McCarthy officiated and bearers were Frank 
Wirtz, John Endres, Theodore Kreuger, Frank Mileski, Daniel Woodish, and Thos. 
Carten.  The burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.  There were many out of town 
to attend, and the flowers were many and beautiful.
