Mrs. Kalkofen was born in the town of Neiderahr, Germany, on November 19, 1841. She was the daughter of John and Ann Endres. In the year 1868 she married John Kalkofen, and came to American in 1885, settling in Ionia, where she has lived continuously since. She is survived by her husband, and seven children and 19 grandchildren, one brother, Adam Endres of New Salem, and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Wirtz of Ionia. The funeral will take place on Thursday morning at 9:00 o’clock from SS. Peter & Paul’s church. Interment in Mount Olivet. Mrs. John Kalkofen died Mon. afternoon at 2:40 at her home, 349 Center street, after an illness of about three weeks. She was 74 years old. Her husband seven children survive—Mrs. George Hough of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Frank Abfalter of this city, Mrs. Elizabeth Byrnes of Lansing, Mrs. Anna Simmons of Erie, Pa., John Endres of this city, Joseph Kalkofen and Sebastian Kalkofen of Grand Rapids.
