June 5, 2012 James P. Kammers of Greenville, formerly of Ionia, passed away at home May 30, 2012. He was born Oct. 26, 1949 in Ionia the son of Philip and Barbara (Dennis) Kammers. He graduated from Ionia High School class of 1969. James was a Vietnam Army veteran where he earned a Bronze Star. He served as Paratrooper in the Army Airborne called the "Pathfinders" and later as a Door Gunner on a helicopter. James was a life member of Sheridan VFW. He loved to hunt and fish. James is survived by his father, Philip (Krisi) Kammers of Ionia; step father, Howard Colley of Mecosta; brother, Frederick Joseph Kammers of Ohio; sister, Bonita Kammers and Michael Schodowski of Sheridan; step brother, Timothy (Debbie) Colley of Ionia; step sisters, Darlene (Don) Lance of Alma and Connie (Terry) Kauffman of Sheridan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Colley. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
