Another telegram was received later from his wife, which read, “Will is dead. Can’t arrange for the funeral; am in jail.” Will Kanouse was born in this county, and is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kanouse of Prairie Creek district, and a brother of Bert Kanouse, who left on same afternoon, to bring the remains back for interment, if possible, where the first wife is buried, as that was the oft expressed wish of deceased. Wm. Kanouse left Ionia some thirty years ago for the west, and has never made Ionia his home since, though he had made visits here—the last time, about two years ago, and last year Bert Kanouse equipped his Ford machine with a complete camping outfit and made the long trip to St. Charles and return as a vacation trip. No further particulars. William and wife, it is said did not live together happily, and the fact that she is in jail arouses the suspicion that there had been a family quarrel.
