Alice “Sally” Kardos, age 90, of Ionia and formerly of Saranac, passed away 
April 6, 2009.  She was born April 13, 1918 in Berlin Township, the daughter 
of Dewey Lee and Ina (Powers) Stevens.  “Sally” was raised by Uncle Louie and 
Aunt Phoebe Stevens of Saranac.  She married Donald Pierce and they had two 
children, Rita and Darrell Pierce.  She later married George Kardos.  He 
preceded her in death. “Sally” lived around the Saranac and Ionia area most of 
her life.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ionia.  “Sally” 
will be remembered for her excellent cooking.  It was always a treat for her 
family and friends to eat her home cooking.  She will be greatly missed by her 
family.

Alice is survived by her son Darrell (Doris) Pierce of Lyons; grandchildren 
Teresa (Gary) Masseau of Lansing, Dave (Betty) Pierce of Lyons and Dianna 
Minzey of Lyons; 6 great-grandchildren; special niece Phyllis VanHouten of 
Ionia and special friend Peg Minzey of Orleans.  She was preceded in death by 
one daughter, Rita Pierce Travis, one grandson Danon Pierce and two sisters 
Gladys and Beatrice.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia 
with Rev. Greg Gladding officiating.  Interment at Saranac Cemetery.  The 
family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. 
Saturday prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers you may make memorial 
contributions to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
