Sentinel-Std. - Monday, Oct. 1, 1984

PORTLAND- Monnie Karker, 93, of 1200 Wright Ave., Alma, the Michigan Masonic 
Home, a former Portland resident, died Sunday.

Born Oct. 30, 1890, in Livingston County, she was the daughter of William and 
Ettie Simpson Thayer. Her husband, Coral, who formerly operated a shoe store in 
Portland, preceded her in death in 1972.

She was a retired school teacher, a member of Portland United Methodist Church, 
and Portland Chapter No. 258 of Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving is a brother-in-law, Dorrance Risch of Webberville.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Neller Funeral Home, with 
the Rev. Lew Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in Portland Cemetery.
