Hastings Reminder - Oct. 11, 2008


Vernon A. Karrar, age 95, of Lake Odessa, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday 
morning, October 7, 2008

Vernon was born in Ionia County on November 26, 1912 to J. Arthur and Emma 
(Brooks) Karrar.

He was united in marriage to Helen Slocum on January 17, 1933. They were 
married for 69 years before Helen’s death on May 21, 2002.

Vernon had been a lifelong farmer, and had also worked for a number of years at 
E.W. Bliss.

He had been a member of the Lake Odessa Grace Brethren Church for his entire 
life.

Vernon is survived by his sons, Richard and Lorna Karrar, Paul and Ann Marie 
Karrar, and Stephen and Sherry Karrar; son-in-law, Ron Miller, 15 
grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; half-
brothers and sisters, Arthur Karrar, Maxine and Ron Wildman, Caroline and Frank 
Wapiennik, and Harold Karrar; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Karrar and LaVona Slocum; 
and many more relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; infant daughter, Beverly 
Karrar; daughter, Sharon Miller; sisters and brother, Margaret Senters, Irene 
Blain, and Lyle Karrar; and stepmother Clarise Karrar. 

Funeral and committal services were held on Friday, October 10, 2008 at the 
Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Burial will be in Clarksville Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Lake 
Odessa Grace Brethren Church.

Arrangements were made by Koops Funeral Chapel of Lake Odessa.
