Mr. Kart had gone to work feeling and appearing as well as ever and a moment previous to his death had been running some sticks across the buzz planer. He stepped over to Charles Cooley, who was working on a machine only three feet away and laying his hand on Charley’s arm, spoke to him. Mr. Cooley who did not understand him, turned around to find out what he wanted and as he did so Mr. Kart clasped his hand to his heart, uttered a moan and began sinking to the floor. Mr. Cooley asked him what was wrong but receiving no answer he caught Mr. Kart, letting him down to the floor gently. He immediately ran for some water and sent a man for Dr. Snyder who hurried to the mill, but all help was useless, for the stricken man was dead as soon as he dropped to the floor. The news was broken as gently as possible to the poor wife but it was a heartrending scene when the body was borne home to her and the two little ones who saw him leave home only a few moments before, a strong, healthy man, energetic and full of hope for the future. Mr. Kart was well known throughout the country, having operated a threshing outfit for years, and we have yet to learn of one enemy of this man. He disliked trouble and would lose money rather than to have trouble with anyone and it is likely that were it not for this one good fault he would have been better off financially. He and his brother-in-law, Hurd Green, recently purchased the “red planning Mill,” Mr. Green sold out to him later. The mill was operated successfully and the prospects for the future were looking brighter than ever before. J. Harvey Kart was the son of Samuel and Rachel Kart of this place and was born in Oakland county, O., on March 19, 1873 and was married to Miss Nellie Shriner in this place about nine years ago. To this union have been born two boys, Claude and Laverne, their ages now being 8 and 2, respectively. Beside these, the deceased leaves a mother, father, three brothers, Charles, John and George, and two sisters, Mrs. H. Green and Mrs. F. E. Stadel, all who live in or near the village. The sympathy of the entire community are with the bereaved family and especially with the widow and two small children who have lost a kind and loving husband and father. The funeral was held at the Apostolic church and burial was made in the Lake side cemetery.
