Kauffman, age 69, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, surrounded by her family at her home after a lengthy illness. Enjoying a long, happy marriage and raising a loving family were her primary goals in life, and Barbara J. Kauffman realized her goals ten-fold. In October 2004, she and her husband, Roger S. Kauffman of Wyoming, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their family. Born the second of five children to the late Dorothy and Howard Line of Lansing, Barbara excelled in school and was graduated in the top of her class from Sexton High School in Lansing. She married her high school sweetheart, Roger, of Ionia. They moved to Sumter, S.C. where Roger was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. Barbara and Roger returned to Grand Rapids where she nurtured their growing family and secured a position as a bookkeeper at Thrift Products until her retirement. Throughout their life together, Barbara and Roger enjoyed taking their family on camping trips within the United States. They later purchased a log cabin on a trout stream near Luther. They enjoyed weekends and vacations hiking, fishing, bird watching and entertaining family and friends. Barbara was also an avid bridge player. In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by daughters, Linda Weidenfeller and Karen (Robert) Rogers; son, Steven (Mary); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Vlahakis, Janet Volk and brothers Roger and David Line. Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Wyoming South), 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Pastor Cheryl Lamport officiating. Internment will be at Balcom Cemetery in Ionia. The family received visitors at the funeral home Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of West Michigan.
