Coarabelle N. Kauffman, 87, of Alto, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997 at Pennock 
Hospital.

She was born March 8, 1910 in Campbell Township, the daughter of Geofge and 
Nora (Slater) Hooper.

She graduated from Freeport High School in 1928 and from Ionia County Normal 
in 1929.

She taught in several Ionia rural schools before marrying Clair Kauffman May 
22, 1943 in Bay City. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Alto 
area until 1975 when they retired and spent the winters in Florida.

She was a lifelong member of the Bowne Center United Methodist Church and a 
65-year lifetime member of the Eastern Star, the Alto Garden Club, Bowne 
Center Extension Club and the Bowne Hospital Guild.

She is survived by two daughters, Lois (Wayne) Blocher of Chapleau, Ontario, 
Canada and Janis (Tom) Hollingsworth of Troy; one granddaughter, Kali Claire 
Hollingsworth; and one brother-in-law, Frank (Marguerite) Kauffman of 
Hastings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair, in 1986 and one sister, 
Lillian Brandt, also 1986.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Koops 
Funeral Chapel in Clarksville with Rev. Bryan Schneider-Thomas officiating. 
Interment will be in Bowne Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 7 
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 
p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bowne Center United Methodist 
Church Building Fund.
