Donald Vance Kauffman, age 82, of Saranac, passed away Oct. 25, 2015, in Grand
Rapids.  He was born May 10, 1933, in Ionia the son of Vance and Alice
(Weatherbee) Kauffman.  Don married Marjorie Blanding Dec. 26, 1953.  She
preceded him in death in 1969.  He married Nora Jane Hammer on May 29, 1971. 
Don was a graduate of Ionia High School class of 1953.

He was a member of Saranac Fire Department for 35 years, Saranac Community
Church, Saranac Lions Club, Historical Color Guard, Village Zoning Committee,
Saranac Jaycees, American Legion, and Qua-ke-zik Sportsman’s Club.  He was a
Little League Coach and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Nora Jane Kauffman of Saranac;
children, Georgienne Hammer of Omena, Beth (Brian) Kelly of Saranac, Terri
(Allen) Bush of Ionia, Susan (Richard) Dues of Lowell and Gerald (Connie)
Kauffman of Saranac; grandchildren, Rebecca, Michael, Erin, Stephanie, Jessica,
Kendall, Dylan, Jeremy and Jack; nine great grandchildren; brothers and sisters
in law, Barb Kauffman, Gordon Hankinson, Bill and Joanne Hankinson and Mike and
Lori Hankinson and special friend Bill Hecht Sr.  He was preceded in death by
his daughter Annette (Dino) Hammer, infant grandson, one brother Arthur and one
sister Shirley Leik.

A visitation will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Saranac Community Church
with a Celebration of Life service with Pastor Becky Poor officiating at 11 a.m.
 A luncheon at the church will follow the service.  Arrangements by Lake Funeral
Home of Saranac.  Memorial contributions may be made to Saranac Community Fire
Department.
