Those left with fun memories that make them smile are his wife of 62 years, Betty (Leazenby) Kauffman and four children, Dennis (Karen) Kauffman, David (Melanie) Kauffman, Darlene Kauffman and Debbie Kauffman. Others who hold cherished memories are Roger’s brother and sisters, Leahbelle (Don) Stewart, Robert (Rosemary) Kauffman, Ruthanne (Ernie) Newman and Julie Benschooter. Among Roger’s (Grandpa Florida) many proud accomplishments are the 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren he left to remember him. Roger happily reunited with two children and a granddaughter upon his passing, Diane Boyer, Daniel Kauffman and Tadum Thole, as well as his father, mother and three siblings. Roger graduated from Saranac high School in 1954. He worked for Smith Brothers, owned and operated D&K Sales & Service and farmed while in Lake Odessa prior to his move to Florida in 1982. While in Florida, Roger worked and retired as a machinist at Superior Honing Equipment Company. Roger enjoyed “hands on projects” and was known as a jack-of-all-trades. He loved the Florida sun, fishing, shrimp dipping and a good old barbeque in the back yard with family. He will be most remembered for his laid back way of life, quirky sense of humor and go with the flow personality. The family will celebrate Roger’s life with those he touched from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Odessa Township Hall, 3862 Laurel Dr., Lake Odessa. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger’s memory may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association or TideWell Hospice: tidewellhospice.org of 3355 26th St. W., Bradenton, FL 34208.
