Mrs. Sherman Keefer died Saturday morning at Harper hospital in Detroit, following an operation, which was performed ten days before by Dr. Metcalf, one of the most skilled surgeons of the city. The sad news reached Mr. Keefer as he was on his way to the train, expecting to go to the city to spend Sunday with his wife. Mrs. Keefer was taken to Detroit by Dr. Martin two weeks ago. She was in a critical condition and an operation had been decided upon. She rallied afterwards and it was thought that she was on the road to recovery when the relapse came suddenly Friday evening. Three little daughters are left motherless. They are Lucile, Beulah and Florence, whose ages are ten, seven and two respectively. Their grief was pitiful when the mother’s body reached the farm home near Portland Saturday. Mrs. Keefer was born in Gratiot county in 1869. She was married to Mr. Keefer in 1895 and they have since resided in this vicinity, the husband now being a justice of the peace and member of the township board. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Willis of the Muir Presbyterian church.
