Dr. T.K. Brown reached her bedside soon after she was stricken, but could do nothing to save her. The family are naturally shocked and grief stricken over her sudden, unexpected demise. Mrs. Keilan was 72 years of age on November 4th, last. She was a native of Germany and her maiden name was Mary Lawens. She married Christopher Keilan, in Germany, in January, 1873, and the following April the couple came to the United States. They settled first in Riley township, Clinton county, and subsequently lived on different farms in Lyons and Portland townships, moving to the village 18 years ago. Since their removal to the village they had more or less lived a life of retirement. Mrs. Keilan was a member of Saint Patrick’s church and the Christian Mother’s society. In her more active days she was a devout worker in the church. Surviving her are nine children, four of whom are Catholic nuns. The children are Sister Theolinda, of Chaska, Minn., Sister Edelinda, of Baltimore, Md., Sister Caritina, of New York City, Sister Regis, of Nazareth, Mich., Mrs. Edward Sullivan, Mrs. Thomas Manning, Joseph Keilan and the Misses Barbara and Margaret Keilan, of Portland. She is also survived by a brother, William Lawens, and a sister, Mrs. John Thelen, both of whom reside at Mount Pleasant, Mich. [Transcriber's Note: There is a notation on the obituary card that she was buried in Portland Cemetery.] File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/k/keilan14818nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
