Keilen, age 72, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014. He was born on August 24, 1942 in Portland, MI the son of Walter and Odelia (Platte) Keilen. Mr. Keilen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the St. Joseph Society, and retired from farming in 2006. Larry was the Portland Township Treasurer from 1988-2006, Board Member of Maynard-Allen State Bank from 1980-1998, and was on the Westphalia Township Review Board. He enjoyed traveling, occasional trips to the casino, spending time with his family, attending his grandchildren’s' events, and was a Detroit Tigers and M.S.U. fan. In July of this year, the entire family celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary in Walhalla, MI. Larry had a contagious smile, kind words, and was known to put other people's needs in front of his own. Preceding him in death were his daughter, Lori; parents; brother, Don; infant brother, Joseph John; in-laws, Wilmer and Edna Miller, and Art Fernholz; in- laws, Ron Miller, Elaine Miller, and Tom Droste. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Peg; children, Jeff (Charlene) Keilen, Doug (Lori) Keilen, Nancy (Ron) Pytlak, Joe (Liz) Keilen, and Sara (Bill) Badgero; grandchildren, Josh, Stephany and Alex Keilen, Lindsey and Drew Keilen, Ben, Lauren and Natalie Pytlak, Caleb, Faith and Gabriel Keilen, Jacob Manning, Bailey, Isaac, Noah and Brooke Badgero; siblings, Leon (Aggie) Keilen, Jim (Cornelia) Keilen, Lydia Keilen, Betty (Dan) Weber, Janet Droste, and Joan (Don) Schmitt; in-laws, Jim (Becky) Miller, Alice (Rich) Bengel, Jerry (Elaine) Miller, Mary (Jack) Sandborn, JoAnn (Matt) Anthony, Kathy (Dave) Walker, Junior (Ann) Miller, Chuck (Toni) Miller, and Gary (Jean) Miller; many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rev. Eric Weber presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Sunday, and 3 p.m. Monday, and a Scriptural Wake Service held at 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
