Phoenix, Ariz. – Clarence Budington Kelland, 82, nationally known writer of 
fiction and newspaper articles, died Tuesday after a long illness.  Kelland, who 
started his newspaper career in 1904 with the Detroit News, gained his national 
reputation with the Saturday Evening Post which printed 55 of his serials.  He 
was a vice president and director of Phoenix Newspapers, Inc., which publishes 
the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette.  He was born in Portland, Mich.
