One week ago yesterday he was in this city in the best of health, having just returned from the funeral of his daughter in Battle Creek. The funeral will be held at SS. Peter & Paul’s church tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock. John Kelley, for many years an employee in the blacksmith shop at the D. L. & N. shops, but of late on the retired list, died at Grand Rapids, yesterday, at the home of his son Edward, of pneumonia. The remains will arrive in Ionia on Saturday for interment. Subsequent Publication: Saturday, June 6, 1896 The remains of Mr. John Kelley arrived on the 7:45 train this morning, from Grand Rapids, and were conducted to the church of SS. Peter and Paul, where solemn high mass was read by Rev. Fr. Fierle, who also preached an appropriate and touching sermon. Among the relatives from out the city were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zang, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Renkes and children, and Wm. Kelly, of Battle Creek; Robert Kelley, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Kelley, of Grand Rapids and Daniel Kelley, of Lansing. The remains were laid to rest beside those of his beloved wife and son, in the Catholic cemetery, midst a profusion of floral tributes.
