Kelley, and Mrs. Kelley in Lyons for Hugh D. Kelley, Lyons merchant who died unexpectedly in his home Thursday morning. The services were conducted by the Rev. F.S. M??r, pastor of the Baptist church and interment was in the family lot in Lyons cemetery. Bearers were V.F. Upton, J.W. Currigan, B.W. Grove, G.W. Staley, Owen W. Smith and Wilmot Loveless. Mr. Kelley was the oldest business man in Lyons. His first venture in general merchandising was in 1898 in the store building now owned by Owen Smith. He had conducted a grocery store in the present location since 1911 and for 20 years had his son, Hugh D. Kelley, as his associate. Mr. Kelley was also the oldest native-born resident of Lyons. He was the son of John and Margaret Kelley, and he was born August 8, 1870 in the home now owned by John Currigan, and moved to his late home when nine months old. As a young man he was employed by his grandfather Dr. David Kelley, in Lyons. In 1893 he was married to Miss Louella Canty and to them were born seven children two of whom, James and Theo died in infancy. Mrs. Kelley died May 20, 1922. Surviving are Mrs. Helen M. Carter of Elsie, David L. and John A of Newaygo, Gordon E, of Gladstone, and Hugh M. of Lyons. There are six grandchildren and his twin sisters, Mrs. Nellie Riker and Mrs. E.H. Allen of Lyons. Mr. Kelley had always been active in village affairs and served several years on the village council, five years as village president and member of the board of education. He was a charter and life member of Evergreen chapter, OES, and life member of the F.&A.M. Attending the funeral from away were Mrs. Helen M. Carter of Elsie, Lieutenant and Mrs. Kelley Carter of Fort Benning, Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. D.I. Kelley, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Kelley and children, David and Judy of Newaygo; Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Kelley and sons, Gilbert and Rodney, of Gladstone; Mrs. Byrl Beebe of Grand Rapids; Stanley Allen of Pontiac, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Regan and Mrs. Bessie McGee of Lansing, Mrs. Wayne Green of Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Henning, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Larson, and Clyde Forman of Newaygo, Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Craven, Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Barnard, Mrs. Waldo Schwanbeck of Elsie, Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Allen of Durand, C.K. Richards of Flint, and Mr. and Mrs. L.I. Hale of Ionia. One grandson, Lt. Fred L. Carter, serving with the armed forces in England, was unable to attend.
