Dorothea M. (Smith) Kelley, age 87, of Ionia, passed away March 7, 2014 in 
Ionia.  She was born February 17, 1927 in Westphalia the daughter of Bernard 
and Anna (Schaffer) Smith. 

Dorothea married Richard Kelley on September 27th, 1950 in Portland.  She 
worked as a Teacher’s Aide at SS Peter and Paul Catholic School and several 
years at 1 Hour Cleaners.  Dorothea was an avid bowler, loved to golf and play 
cards.  She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Alter Society, 
and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. 

Dorothea is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard Kelley of 
Ionia; children, Patrick (Kandy) Kelley of Ionia, Michael (Sue) Kelley of 
Carson City, Jim (Sherri) Kelley of Ionia, and Anna (Joe) Schueller of Ionia; 
brother, Michael Smith of Ionia; sisters, Donna Hubbard of Schoolcraft, Pat 
(Keith) Baker of Lyons, and Ernie Root of Ionia; nine grandchildren; four great-
grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Fritz Smith 
and sister, Caroline Wirth. 

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, at SS Peter 
and Paul Catholic Church with Father Thomas Boufford and Father Charlon Mason 
officiating.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the 
church.  Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the spring.  Donations may be made 
in Dorothea’s name to the Ionia Area Hospice or SS Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church.
