Ace was born March 17, 1919, the son of George and Grace Fairchild Kellogg at the family farm on 5 Mile Road outside of Belding. He was a graduate of Belding High School. Ace served with the 398th Bomb Group in England during World War II. He was a bombardier and a gunner on a B-17 bomber on which he and his fellow crew members flew 31 missions, the last several of which bombed targets in Berlin, Germany. On May 26, 1944 Ace was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts while serving with the Army Air Force in 1944. Ace was married August 19, 1951 to Elizabeth “Betty” Wilson of Cooks Corner. They had lived on a farm, part of the family farm, later moving in to the city of Belding where they resided for several years. Subsequently, they built a house on 5 Mile Road and lived there for a number of years. Ace worked at Meijer and for Great Day in their produce departments. Ace served on the Belding City Council for several years and was mayor of Belding during the 1980s. He was a member of the Rockford Masonic Lodge for 62 years. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; his parents; two sisters, Frankie Schroeder, Marian Green; and brother, Peter R. Kellogg. Ace is survived by brother-in-law, David and Verna Wilson of Belding; two nephews, Harold and Alice Allchin of Belding, Steve Cornwall of Ohio; two great-nephews, George and Pattie Allchin of Lowell, Greg and Judy Allchin of Byron Center; and very close family friend, Joyce Cooley. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Alton Cemetery. For those wishing to make memorial contributions, consideration may be given to Heartland Hospice.
