The officiating clergyman was the Rev. W.R. Currier. A large number of the G.A.R. comrades of the bereaved husband were present, and the bearers were taken from the ranks of those, as follows: Chas. C. Eyster, Benj. R. Covert, J.L. Fowle, C.A. Preston, Thomas Griffith, W.L. Kidd, with Edgar O. Shattuck as officer of the day. The postoffice force, in which Mr. Kelly is a rural carrier, was also present in a body, and accompanied the remains to the grave in beautiful Highland Park. Elizabeth Rose was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, on March 8, 1845, and departed this life at her home in Prairie Creek suburb, Ionia, Mich., on December 1st, 1904, thus being aged 59 years, 8 months and 23 days. She was united in marriage to Samuel Kelly at Napoleon, Ohio, on Feb. 25, 1866. Soon thereafter they moved to Grand Ledge, Mich., and came thence to Ionia. No children were born to her, but she had a mother’s affection. She took two children in their infancy, a nephew, Sanford, who was adopted, and a niece, now Mrs. Lester Edwards, whom she raised, and to whom she was a loving and most care-taking mother. Both these children survive her. In her home she was a devoted wife and mother, ever mindful of the interests of those about her. Some four years ago she embraced Christianity, and united with the Church of Christ in this city, of which she was a faithful member until death. She leaves a husband, two children, five grandchildren, three sisters, two of whom were present at the funeral, Mrs. S.N. Simmons, of Montpelier, Ind. and Mrs. J. B. Pennington, of Eagle, Mich., and one brother, besides many other relatives and friends, to mourn their loss.
