Mrs. Kelly’s maiden name was Jane Clark, and she belonged to one of the pioneer families of Ionia county. Her father’s name was Joshua Clark, who owned a farm about two miles south of the city, and subsequently made his home in what was then the village of Ionia. Royal Kelly went to California about forty years ago, but Mrs. Kelly remained here to take care of her parents, until after their death, twelve or fifteen years later, when she joined her husband. She was a sister of the late E.O. Clark, and her only present living relative, so far as known, is a sister, Mrs. Joseph Babcock, of Grand Haven. Mrs. Kelly was a good type of the sterling pioneer character, universally esteemed by a large circle of friends of the time when she was resident here.
