Kennedy, 77, of Ionia died Sept. 22 at his home. The son of Homer and Myrtle Hill Kennedy, he was born Nov. 13, 1909, in Orleans. He attended Piper School and also Ionia High School. He was married to Laila Anderson June 4, 1931, in Ionia; she survives. He worked at Ypsilanti-Reed Furniture Co. and General Tire, retiring in 1972. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ionia, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, of the York Wright Cross of Honor, and was a past commander of Ionia Knights Templar, Commandery No. 11. Surviving in addition to his wife are: a daughter, Patricia Gustafson of Ionia; a son, Robert Kennedy of Ionia; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three sisters: Grace Graft of Portland, Alma Kennedy of Ionia; and Winnie Jay of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Neilson, in 1975. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from the Main Street Chapel of Montgomery Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Alzheimer’s Foundation and the First Presbyterian Church.
